Vice President's Letter
Hello,
My name is Tom Scarpa and I'm the presiding Vice President of Nob Valley Swim Club for the 2009 season. On behalf of the board of directors I wanted to personally invite you all to join us for the Open House events scheduled on May 22 (5-7 pm), 23, 24, 30 & 31 (1-4pm). Of course the pool will be open from 12 pm on weekends, so feel free to come earlier.
As you may have read in the newsletter we have been very busy preparing the club for these Opening Day festivities and we can't wait for another season to get underway!
Now with a full Board of nine Directors we were able to form committees and teams to focus on key areas such as Membership, Marketing & Sales, Maintenance & Grounds, Events, and Swim Team.
I'm sure you've seen photos in the recent Newsletter and read about what a great job the grounds/maintenance group has been doing over the past 2 months. Led by the direction of Dan Simpson the grounds have never looked better! It was also a great site to see the pools being filled as we get ready for this weekend.
You may (or may not) have heard about the membership & marketing campaigns we unveiled this spring. Led under the direction of Jennifer Ward and myself, not only have we run newspaper ads and stuffed mailboxes, but we have also organized a campaign with each North Brunswick elementary school, as well as the surrounding South Brunswick and parochial schools, where upon each school will receive a monetary donation from NVSC when a family from that school purchases a full membership (new members only). This not only could bring additional head count into our Nob Valley family, but could provide ample funds for their schools PTO/PTA budgets leading into the 2009/2010 school season. This was very well received by the PTO/PTA's and we have 8 schools participating this year. For these school events alone we have reached out to more than 6,000 families who have each personally received an invitation to come visit Nob Valley Swim Club on either June 6th or 7th. We're not quite sure how much foot traffic that will bring through the gate, but it could be tremendous!
With that said we are reaching out to our general members and asking for their support. We are planning to have key committees (Membership, Swim Team, & Events) present during the Open House (OH) weekends, so we are asking members to come out to the club and lend a hand, even if only for an hour or so. The BOD's will be present throughout those OH weekends to answer questions and give tours to potential new members, and I know the Events committee has many fun activities planned for the weekends ahead and needs not only the participation from members for these activities, but could use some helpful hands in running them. Also, if anyone is/was involved with the Swim Team we could use a hand answering questions from potential new members as they show interest. If there is any time that you could afford to welcome visitors, help out with events/activities, or respond to swim team questions feel free to send a reply to any of the committee chair people I've listed below or to me directly. Please provide your name, date(s) of choice, and the committee you would like to assist with and we'd be greatly appreciative. We'll also be happy to have walk-in volunteers!!
So, please come take a look at the NEW Nob Valley Swim Club! With only days away from Opening Season we look forward to seeing you at the Open House festivities May 22 (5-7 pm), 23, 24, 30 & 31 (1-4 pm) as well as at the School events June 6 & 7 (12-4 pm).
Thank you and See You at the Club!
Tom Scarpa
(On behalf of your NVSC BOD)
